In the world of educational media it is important to understand who your audience is and what is their motivation for watching these videos. The videos I’ve been involved in creating support professional development and so my main audience is made up of educational professionals. Here I briefly share some of my thoughts about making videos for educational professionals.
Back in 2007, when working for a media company, I was involved in overviewing the production of the Maths4Life resource, ‘Thinking Through Mathematics’. The resource was made up of a series of lesson plans with an accompanying DVD, featuring three teachers trying some of the activities with their students. The intention was that the DVD would provide further information and support for teachers using the resource. To achieve this, I needed to make some filming decisions, which I briefly talk about here.
In this video, I briefly talk about the first job I had when filming for educational projects. I started as a media producer working on the government funded project, ‘The national teaching and learning change programme’. I was involved across the first four phases of this project from 2003 to 2008. In phase one, I was in charge of overviewing the development of the multimedia resource, ‘Improving teaching and learning in science’. So I've decided to start a YouTube channel. Although this is not the first YouTube channel I have started, it is the first time I have focused on creating a channel for my business. MOTIVATION I'm not necessarily interested in becoming a YouTuber or some kind of influencer. There are two key reasons for starting this channel.
